Born and raised on a dairy farm in New Kingston NY, I started my company Fruitful Furnishings in 1979. I built a dimension mill in 1990, wood dry kiln in 1991, sawmill in 2005 and then Gary Mead Gallery in 2011. All at one beautiful location on 10.15 acres in Margaretville, NY. The gallery itself is a work of art. The mill/gallery is open year round. My love and respect toward nature and wood are deep inside my heart and soul. Many of my compositions take 100-400 hours to complete. Each composition having its own shop diary. I use curved logs, hollow longs, grapevine, roots, bark and all that is unusual in wood working. Framed original poems are along the fifty foot wall. Teaching what I have learned about wood by writing books for children. Adults learn as they read as well.
