Surroundings are made up of where we live, our environment, our place on this planet that we call home. Home has become so important to all of us since the world has been seized by this pandemic. Many have found a new reality whereby being home was their sanctuary with their families, not seeing friends, working from home trying to remain hopeful that better days would soon be in our future.
During these most trying times I would maintain a sense of serenity, if only for a short period of time painting the magnificent environment here in the Catskills with its “bountiful beauty.” Nature has no worries, it continues to grow and blossom. The seasons continue as life on earth as we know it has changed.
There is a peace and serenity I feel when I am experiencing the wind blowing in the mountains, seeing the clouds changing formation above my head, hearing the sound of babbling brooks or walking in the glistening snow of winter. Painting what I see in this wonderful place takes me away from the worries of mankind for a moment in time. My hopes are that I can take the viewer away for a moment in time to experience and appreciate a moment in this magical place. Sometimes we need to escape to a special place to help us make sense of the ever changing world around us.
