Connect through art
AMR Artist Inc. (AMR) supports a vibrant cultural life for our Delaware County community by promoting and advocating on behalf of the area’s artists and cultural institutions. As a non-profit arts organization, AMR recognizes that a creative environment is an essential component of energetic civic life and sustained economic growth in a small-town community.
Instrumental in connecting local emerging artists with established pros, AMR creates a welcoming habitat for artists and art lovers alike. The goal is to bridge the gap between the Hudson Valley and the Western Catskills by presenting Delaware County as a vibrant regional hub that celebrates the visual arts and fine crafts.
AMR programs also connect the plethora of talented area artists to main street businesses, the local community, galleries, and tourists. AMR encourages emerging artists, as well as artists new to the area, to join in and learn from the established yet expanding Delaware County arts community.
History
AMR began as a grass-roots collective founded by Alix H. Travis in 2012 by hosting the Open Studios Tour in the three Delaware County towns of Andes, Margaretville and Roxbury. Now hosting the tour in eight Delaware County towns, we expand each year, providing Access for Mountain Region Artists as we promote both established and emerging creatives.
Upon relocating in 2017, Alix passed the baton to Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes and a group of dedicated volunteers. In 2020, AMR Artists Inc. established its non-profit status with Helene Manzo as President. Additionally, the Annual Exhibition and satellite art events like Paint The Town (2021) contribute to the growing network of Catskill Mountain and NYC-based artists, connecting artists with tourists, local homeowners, galleries, businesses and students throughout the region.
The Open Studios Tour has become a cherished event and was greatly missed by artists and art lovers during the pandemic. The tour provides socialization among artists and their neighbors and highlights the positives of small town living. Important connections and lifelong friendships are born from the visits to the unique, one-of-a-kind studios tucked away in these mountains.
