Luke Dougherty: Here a mist, there a mist
June 28th - July 27, 2025
Opening Reception: June 28th, 2pm - 6pm
An exhibition of paintings and drawings by Luke Dougherty
Luke Dougherty’s paintings feel less like declarations and more like exploratory exercises in dream, sensation and memory. From one work to another, his paintings move between abstraction and representation, as if neither genre can fully encompass Dougherty’s desire to articulate his experience of the world.
In choosing a title for his show, Dougherty found the line “Here a mist, there a mist” in Emily Dickenson’s poem Our share of night to bear (113). It encapsulates the interplay of perception, abstraction, and dreamlike ambiguity that defines this exhibition. He says “for me the sense of mist is in my paintings, also it’s a really simple little poem about wonders and hurdles.”
Luke Dougherty (b.1972) lives and works in Bovina, NY. He is Adjunct Assistant Professor at SUNY Oneonta, teaching Drawing I & II. He received his MFA from University at Buffalo in 2014.
