About the Artist

Lesley A. Powell has been an artist all of her life. She was first a dancer, choreographer and now a painter. The love of movement, space, texture, the body, color and nature are major influences on her art. Her work ranges from paintings about the body, anatomy and movement to the abstraction of landscapes and bodies.  Deep adoration of the outdoors is also a part of Lesley’s Plein Air Series.  She sometimes uses collages to create a new way juxtaposition of different images and colors.

Lesley's art deals with the ability to expressively describe movement, its emotions and space, whether it was on the stage or now the two dimensional space of the canvas. The canvas is now her stage for movement, line, color, texture and expression.  She is intrigued by the movements of the body, stories of juxtapositions of images of people and the love of nature.  Blurring the image to capture essence of the movement, the expression of the space on the canvas, nature and color are motivations in her work. She has actively presenting her work with AMR Open Studio Tours, pop ups, Arts Students League, National Academy of Arts and Longyear Gallery.

Lesley is now a member of Longyear Gallery and has been active with AMR Artists, a nonprofit organization promoting art in the Catskills through the Open Studios Tour. Her work has been presented at shows in the New York area. She just received an honorable mention in a February 2022 show at the Arts Students League. She has presented her work at Longyear Gallery, AMR Artists, Fusion Art, Cooperstown Arts Association, Arts Students League, Art Intersection, Fusion Art, Las Laguna Art Gallery Xmas Show December 2020 Arts Students League New York, New York, Manhattan Borough President's Office, Westside Arts Coalition and the National Academy of Arts.
